Root & Cap
Exceptional mushrooms, thoughtfully grown.
We’re a small farm focused on growing mushrooms with care, patience, and attention to detail. Everything we produce—from cultivated mushrooms to microgreens, herbs, and foraged goods—is grown or gathered with flavor, freshness, and integrity in mind.

Who We Are
A Small Farm, Focused on Quality
Root & Cap is built around a simple idea: how something is grown shows up on the plate.
We don’t chase volume or shortcuts. We focus on cultivation practices that prioritize texture, flavor, and consistency—qualities that matter just as much to home cooks as they do to chefs.
Our scale allows us to be hands-on at every step, from substrate preparation to harvest timing.

Our Approach to Growing
Grown With Intention
Mushrooms are sensitive organisms. Small changes in environment, timing, and handling make a noticeable difference in how they cook and taste.
We grow slowly, harvest deliberately, and prioritize:
- Proper maturity at harvest
- Clean handling and careful storage
- Consistency from one harvest to the next
The goal isn’t just mushrooms that look good—it’s mushrooms that perform well in the pan.

What We Grow & Gather
Beyond Cultivated Mushrooms
While mushrooms are at the heart of what we do, our farm also produces microgreens and culinary herbs, and we responsibly source seasonal foraged goods when available.
Each category is treated with the same standards:
- Freshness over shelf life
- Flavor over uniformity
- Seasonality over convenience
This mix reflects how we think about food—as something connected to time, place, and care.

Grown for the Kitchen
Cooking Comes First
Everything we grow is meant to be cooked, not just displayed.
We think about:
- How mushrooms brown
- How they hold structure
- How they respond to heat
This perspective comes from listening to cooks—home cooks and professionals alike—and letting their needs inform how we grow.
If it doesn’t cook well, it doesn’t belong here.

Seasonality & Supply
Letting Ingredients Be What They Are
Not everything is available all the time—and that’s intentional.
Some mushrooms are seasonal. Foraged goods depend on weather and timing. Microgreens and herbs follow their own rhythms. We believe respecting those cycles leads to better food and fewer compromises.
An Invitation, Not a Pitch
Thoughtful Growing, Shared Simply
Whether you’re here to cook, learn, or source ingredients, we believe good food starts with understanding where it comes from.
Root & Cap exists to grow things well, explain what we do honestly, and offer ingredients that reward care in the kitchen.
